This summer I’ve had a number of disappointing products, some super cheap and some fairly expensive! Now, disclaimer alert… just because I don’t think these products doesn’t mean you won’t, don’t hate the player etc!
Disappointing product number 1!
Gatineau Tan Accelerator, I won’t lie, I was slightly gutted this didn’t live up to the 5 star reviews but maybe it was just me. £40 for a body lotion that was supposed to prolong tanning and reduce sunburn, hurt my feelings when it didn’t deliver. I do find it difficult to naturally tan when I’m on holiday, I really thought this would be a holy grail product but it just didn’t do anything. I went through the rigmarole of applying it everyday for two weeks, day and night! The result was completely underwhelming! So yeah, if you have trouble tanning because you’re a fake tan addict like me, don’t buy this, use the money for cocktails!
Surprising disappointing product number 2!
Benefit Whatt’S Up! Again, 5 star reviews made me buy this highlighter but I should have known that this cream highlighter wouldn’t deliver. I have oily skin, I like to use powder to set my make up as I imagine a lot of women do. To then add this on top, just ruins your face! Not literally, obviously but putting in all the effort of baking etc. to then have it all ruined by smearing this over your cheekbones reduced me to tears. (I’m being melodramatic because it was £24!) Cream highlighter on a matt foundation, it’s never going to work and I should have just stuck with my Sleek highlighter! To give some credit to Benefit, this would look beautiful on bare skin for a nice holiday glow but it just didn’t work for me. I tend to use this to highlight my brow bone and cupids bow but its a big price tag for a product that only works in such a small area of my face!
Foundation fail number 1,000 (probably)
I’ve stopped counting the amount of terrible foundations I’ve bought over the years. I don’t think I’ve ever really found one that ticks all the boxes for me but I keep struggling on! (First world problems!)
The new Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation is another failed attempt at matte perfection. I don’t know if it’s my skin but nothing about this foundation leaves my skin matte and poreless but at £5.99 I can live cope with the loss. When I apply this in a morning (around 7am), I can see my oily skin under my foundation by lunch time and even foundations I’ve had that don’t make those claims don’t do that to my face. As like all the products I’ve moaned about, this one has 4+ stars on most websites, maybe I’m just doing it wrong! By the time I get home from work, I can barely see this on my face, it’s like it’s all but melted off and congregated into an oily mess! Thanks Maybelline…’Maybel-not’
Make Up Revolution….just some products Now its not all bad, some Make Up Revolution products are the bomb…. their Focus and Fix Brow kit being one of them! I recently bought a bunch of products in view of doing a haul post but I just felt the products I bought were not that good! And I know, I know, it’s really cheap so you can’t always expect perfection but some products really do work from this brand.
I’ll start with the Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer, I went left wing…got a colour I wouldn’t normally go for, wasted £3. Oh this is a horrible lip lacquer, no offence Make Up Revolution but this stuff does not stay on your lips, it’s like Bambi on ice only on your lips! It also bleeds terribly and overall just a very high maintenance lip lacquer that’s not worth anyone’s time.
Focus and Fix concealer also leaves a lot to be desired and I know it’s only £2 but it’s well documented that high street beauty brands generally do t
he best concealers. That is not the case with this one, it just doesn’t conceal anything at all. I found it just dragged on my foundation and ruined my under eye area
as it dries incredibly quick! I was really disappointed with this and I know I didn’t spend a lot but they now have an awesome website which I could easily spend a lot! I think the brand is very hit and miss so choose wisely and do your research.
Sooooo rant over! Like I said, these products didn’t work for me personally but if they worked for you, let me know, I’d love to hear your experiences!
